Computer/Technology

PreKindergarten

Students learn how to use a computer.  Early learning programs are used to enhance reading and math skills.

Kindergarten

Students learn rules on how to use a computer and its basic parts.  Early learning software is introduced to promote reading and math skills.  Keyboarding is introduced in the second semester.

1st Grade

Students continue to learn to use technology to support learning.  They also learn Microsoft Paint and Word skills completing activities such as writing and illustrating a story and producing an animated report about their community.

2nd Grade

Students continue to improve their keyboarding nd Microsoft Office skills.  Students learn features and tools in Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Paint and Access.  Students also learn how to research on the Internet.
Students complete activities such as editing a fairy tale, creating a PowerPoint on an animal, learning about celebrations around the world and taking part in a "Be Fit Challenge".
Students continue developing their keyboarding skills averaging 12-15 wpm.

3rd Grade

Students learn computer technology terminology and skills completing activities such as creating a PowerPoint on their hero, composing poetry, and becoming a responsible digital citizen.
Students continue developing their keyboarding skills averaging 15-20 wpm.

Grades 4-8

Students complete technology projects that post challenging questions or present real-world problems that are personally meaningful to students.  They investigate issues and propose viable solutions.

4th Grade

Students learn Microsoft Office and computer technology skills completing activities such as raising awareness on an endangered species, using math to make decisions about a bake sale, producing an animated story, and learning medieval facts to save the kingdom.
Students continue developing their keyboarding skills averaging 15-20 wpm.

5th Grade

Students learn Microsoft Office and computer technology skills completing activities such as traveling to a distant location and reporting the facts, developing a webpage with hyperlinks, and learning about Egyptian life and beliefs by studying artifacts.
Students continue developing their keyboarding skills averaging 20-25 wpm.

6th Grade

Students learn Microsoft Office and computer technology skills completing activities such as editing stories, using entrepreneurial skills to operate a restaurant, creating an animated book report, and tracking down clues to solve a case.
Students continue developing their keyboarding skills averaging 20-25 wpm.

7th Grade

Students learn Microsoft Office and technology skills completing activities such as publishing a magazine, creating a travel advertisement, taking part in a stock market simulation, and constructing a database on space exploration.
Students continue developing their keyboarding skills averaging 25-30 wpm.

8th Grade

Students learn Microsoft Office and computer technology skills completing activities such as creating publications to raise environmental awareness, creating a company and convincing others to invest in it, and constructing a web page using HTML.
Students continue developing their keyboarding skills averging 25-30 wpm.
